Dress Code and Bully Prevention

Today, bullying is more prevalent in schools than it has ever been. How can we stop this? The idea of a dress code has been suggested and implemented into many school systems today. With the combination of a very strong media and entertainment influence as well as the constant new trends in the fashion industry, children in school are becoming more focused on their appearance at school. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to everything they want. Some children come from households in which their families can not afford to clothe them in their desired clothes. Also, other children come from homes in which their parents simply refuse to buy certain clothing for their children. As a result, in schools, children are very often subjected to bullying because of the way they are dressed. When a child comes to school feeling unsafe or uncomfortable, it is nearly impossible for them to focus completely on their academics. They become concerned with other issues such as what others think of them, how to interact with others who may be considered "cooler" or more fashionable, and also, on the contrary, some children who are considered to dress more fashionably worry too much about their appearance and sometimes protecting themselves from bullies as well. Therefore, the question is Cocktailjurken 2012 posed, will a dress code eliminate this factor of bullying from the school system?

In my opinion, I feel school systems should have a certain and strict dresscode. As stated above this will take the hassle off of trying to impress and have to worry about what people think/feel about the way you dress. I stated strict dresscode because people can often change uniforms to fit style. For example when I was in middle school, we had to wear uniforms. We had many different color uniform shirts we could wear, along with khaki or black pants. For instance, we had gothic students at school. They would wear black shirt, black pants, make-up, chains, nail polish etc. So style still didn change. With the strict dress code that should/would eliminate things like that.

I debate with this topic all the time and cannot just be on one side or the other. One side tells me that a dress mouwloos avondjurken code will help with bullying so that it not a fashion contest in school everyday. My thought are that maybe the little boy who has to wear the same jeans everyday will not get picked on since everyone will be wearing the same blue dress Lange Cocktailjurken pants or skirts. Yet, then again, these are children and children are cruel. So just because we eliminate a dress code doesn mean bully will cease. I think they may just create a new reason to make fun of other children and then the problem will still exist.
